In addition to lazing, sunbathing and good food, there are opportunities for bathing in lakes, hiking, climbing, horseback riding, cycling and canoeing, as well as the cave of Villars. Small medieval villages and towns with colorful weekly markets, music and folklore festivals in the summer, fortified castles, the Dordogne valley and the famous Lascaux caves with the cave paintings of the early man are some worthwhile excursion destinations. Mushroom enthusiasts will get their money's worth during the late summer and autumn, for which the Dordogne is famous.
The capital of Périgueux, with the largest dome church in Europe, combines its typically regional architecture with its southern charm. The Bergerac wine town and the tourist attraction of medieval towns like Sarlat-la-Caneda or Domme are located further south (about 100 km). The Atlantic coast in the west is about 160 km away (Royan, Gironde estuary or Ile d'Oléron), Bordeaux to the southwest is 170 km away.
